Austin is #1 again!

Austin Is America’s #1 Boomtown Again — And the Momentum Isn’t Slowing Down
Austin has done it again.
For the third consecutive year, Austin has been named America’s No. 1 Boomtown by LendingTree—and the reasons behind the ranking tell an even bigger story about the continued strength and opportunity in Central Texas.
LendingTree analyzed the nation’s 50 largest metropolitan areas across three key areas: people and housing, work and earnings, and business and economic growth. Austin came out on top with a final score of 79.0, well ahead of the No. 2 metro, Raleigh, North Carolina.
So, Why Austin?
The numbers tell the story.
Austin recorded the highest housing-unit growth in the nation at 3.4% and the largest increase in new business applications, up 11.3%. The metro also ranked third nationally for the share of residents who recently moved to the area from another county, state or country, at 17.5%. Overall population growth was 3.1%, ranking fifth among the nation's largest metros.
In other words, people are still moving here, businesses are still being created here, and new housing is still being built to accommodate that growth.
That's a powerful combination.
Austin Continues to Attract People
Austin's growth isn't simply about statistics. It's about people choosing to make Central Texas home.
People continue to move to Austin because of the region's unique combination of economic opportunity, quality of life, entrepreneurial culture, and a business-friendly environment.
And when new residents arrive, they need homes. They need places to work, shop, eat, and build their businesses. That creates opportunities throughout the local economy—including real estate.
LendingTree's chief consumer finance analyst Matt Schulz summed it up well: Austin has been attracting people from around the country for years, and that continued influx creates demand and opportunities for entrepreneurs.
It's Bigger Than Austin
The Austin story is also part of a much larger Texas growth story.
Four Texas metros ranked among the nation's top 15 boomtowns in LendingTree's 2026 analysis:
#1 — Austin
#9 — Houston
#11 — Dallas
#13 — San Antonio
Even more impressive, eight of the nation's top 10 boomtowns are located in the South.
Texas continues to benefit from population growth, business expansion, and an environment that attracts both companies and individuals looking for opportunity.
What Does This Mean for Austin Real Estate?
Being named America's #1 Boomtown doesn't mean every part of the Austin housing market is booming equally—and buyers and sellers still need to navigate today's market carefully.
But it does reinforce something important:
Austin continues to have the fundamental ingredients of a strong long-term real estate market.
Population growth creates housing demand.
Business growth creates jobs.
New businesses create opportunity.
New residents create new households.
And new households need homes.
That doesn't eliminate the challenges of today's market, including affordability, interest rates, inventory and changing buyer expectations. But it does provide an important backdrop for understanding where Austin is headed.
The Austin Story Continues
Austin has changed dramatically over the past decade, and there is no indication that the growth story is over.
Being named America's #1 Boomtown for the third consecutive year isn't simply a headline to celebrate. It's a reflection of the people, businesses, entrepreneurs, builders and families who continue to choose Austin.
For those of us who live and work here, it's exciting to watch.
Austin isn't just growing. It's continuing to attract the people and businesses that create the next chapter of its story.
