Shoreacres is a city in southeastern Harris County, Texas, set on the northwestern shore of Galveston Bay along State Highway 146, between State Highways 146 and 501. At the 2020 census its population was 1,566. The city sits near La Porte and the industrial corridor of the Houston Ship Channel, giving it a distinctive position between waterfront living and one of the nation's busiest ports. The community was platted in the 1920s as a bayside residential development with a resort-like character. The area had previously suffered damage in the 1900 Galveston hurricane but rebuilt, and Shoreacres incorporated in 1949 under a mayor-alderman form of government. The opening of the Houston Ship Channel transformed the regional economy from tourism toward industry, and Shoreacres' population rose from under 200 in the mid-1950s to a peak of about 2,578 by 1970 before settling to its present size.
