The brewery traces its origins to the Shiner Brewing Association, founded in 1909. German and Czech settlers sought a local brewmaster and recruited Kosmos Spoetzl, a classically trained Bavarian brewer, who brought an old-world recipe and eventually lent his name to the operation.
