Guy is an unincorporated community in southern Fort Bend County, Texas, set at the junction of State Highway 36 and Farm Road 1994, roughly eighteen miles south of Richmond. It is one of the county's smaller rural settlements, with a population of only a few dozen people. The area was first settled in the early 1890s as farmers moved onto the flat coastal prairie, and it grew around agriculture, a post office, and a local school that opened in 1897. By 1946 the Guy school had consolidated with the Needville Independent School District, and students have attended Needville ISD campuses ever since. Today Guy is a quiet agricultural crossroads rather than a town in the conventional sense. Row crops, cattle, and rice dominate the surrounding landscape, and farm operations of various sizes define the area's working character. The community's flat, open setting is typical of the Gulf Coast Prairie, where cleared fields alternate with live-oak mottes and pasture. Because there is little commercial development in Guy itself, everyday errands require a drive to the county's small towns, a trade-off many residents accept for the privacy and acreage the area offers. There is no municipal government, so residents rely on Fort Bend County for services and on nearby Needville, Richmond, and Rosenberg for shopping, schools, and medical care. The community is far enough from the suburbs to retain an open-country feel, yet close enough that commuters can reach Richmond, Sugar Land, or the broader Houston metro for work.
