Morgan's Point Resort is an incorporated city in Bell County, Texas, on the eastern shore of Belton Lake, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir of the Leon River. The city takes its name from the James E. Morgan family, early landowners in the area, and it was incorporated in 1970 as a lakeside residential community. Its position on the lake, a few miles north of Belton and Temple, has shaped its growth and character ever since. The community's lakefront orientation is literal: when the Corps of Engineers raised Belton Lake's water level by 25 feet, the local marina was floated from its original location at the foot of Morgan's Point Boulevard to its present site. That adjustment reflects how thoroughly the city's identity is tied to the water. Over the decades Morgan's Point Resort grew from a lakeside retreat into a small city of roughly 4,700 residents, with most of the workforce commuting to nearby Temple, Belton or Fort Cavazos. Today the city functions as a quiet, lake-centered residential community within the Killeen-Temple metropolitan area. Belton Independent School District serves its students, and the lake provides the defining recreational amenity, from the Camp Kachina, Tanyard Springs and Mother Neff paddling trails to the community marina and a city pool with lake views. Cedar Ridge Park and other Corps recreation areas lie nearby. For residents, Morgan's Point Resort offers waterfront living, a low-key pace and convenient access to the jobs, schools, medical care and shopping of Temple and Belton, while Austin lies within a regional drive to the south.
