At 7 p.m. on a Wednesday, the free show at Prete Plaza begins. The city's event listing tells people to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets and to pick up takeout from nearby businesses. Kids get face painting and balloon twisting, all free. The City of Round Rock Arts and Culture program says Music on Main has run for more than 13 years. This fall it's worth a fresh look, because the schedule lines up with the holiday lights in a way the weekend calendar doesn't.
Downtown's best stretch of the season runs midweek. Through Dec. 23, Wednesday has free music, an expanded dining strip on Main Street and, in December, holiday lights that come on before the band finishes. Saturdays bring big events too, but those take place away from Main Street. Wednesday is the night everything happens in one place.
The Wednesday lineup from here to the holidays
The Fall/Holiday 2026 Music on Main schedule puts every show at Prete Plaza, 221 East Main Street, from 7 to 9 p.m. After Rock House plays on Oct. 28, the series has seven Wednesdays left:
- Nov. 4: Lix Box
- Nov. 11: Dysfunkshun Junkshun
- Nov. 18: The JAMS Band ATX
- Dec. 2: MicroBus
- Dec. 9: Fusion Band ATX
- Dec. 16: Agent Echo Band
- Dec. 23: The Clutch Kings
The schedule has two gaps. Nothing is listed for Nov. 25, so the series goes straight from Nov. 18 to Dec. 2, and the season ends on Dec. 23. If you have guests in town over Thanksgiving week, the Wednesday before the holiday won't have a show.
The Nov. 11 date also lands on Veterans Day. Earlier that day, the city holds its Veterans Day Celebration from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lakeview Stage and Pavilion in Old Settlers Park. Your day could start at the park around lunchtime and end downtown with the evening concert.
Main Street has more places to go before and after
The concert gets you downtown, and over the past year Main Street has added more places to stay for the rest of the evening.
The biggest one is at 117 and 119 E. Main St. Community Impact reported in September that the bar and restaurant known as Sociedad had gone back to its original name, Alcove. On Sept. 25 it opened an expansion called The Fair, a country-western venue with a stage, a pool table and a full bar that serves the same menu as Alcove. Owner Michelle Ly told Community Impact that both names come from the building's history, since businesses called Alcove and The Fair once operated there. She described the space this way: "We can offer an elevated date night spot, live music on the patio or a country western theme—three separate feels in one location."
That means a Wednesday night can now include a second set of live music a short walk from Prete Plaza, once the city's show ends at 9.
Here's what else is around the plaza:
- Casita on the Main, 109 W. Main St., serves Mexican dishes, breakfast and desserts. Community Impact reported that it opened on Dec. 24, which means this is its first full holiday season downtown.
- The Rock Sports Bar has moved off Main Street and now operates at 205 N. Mays St.
- The Flats moved into 112 E. Main St. in October 2025, leaving its earlier spot on North Mays.
- Purely Provisions, 212 W. Main St., opened downtown in 2025 with coffee, meals and cocktails in one space. Check its current hours before you plan around it.
Two more spots are on the way but not open yet. Bed Rock Breakfast & Bar has been announced for 114 E. Main St. as an Americana-style restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Casa Masa is planned for 409 N. Mays St., and Community Impact's late-August business roundup said construction would likely continue through December.
If you come early to shop, Sweet Irene's Boutique opened at 110 S. Lampasas St., Unit 4, one block off Main. Community Impact reported that its grand opening was set for Oct. 24 and its first regular week for Oct. 26.
December puts the lights and the music on the same night
On Dec. 1, the season changes. Go Round Rock's 2026 holiday events fact sheet lists Hometown Holiday Lights downtown every night from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31, free, starting at nightfall. It describes sparkling lights, larger-than-life ornaments, oversized gift boxes and twinkling archways along the historic downtown streets.
The lights start on a Tuesday, and Music on Main returns the next evening. So every December concert happens with the lights already on:
| Wednesday | On stage at Prete Plaza, 7 to 9 p.m. | Downtown lights |
|---|---|---|
| Dec. 2 | MicroBus | On from nightfall |
| Dec. 9 | Fusion Band ATX | On from nightfall |
| Dec. 16 | Agent Echo Band | On from nightfall |
| Dec. 23 | The Clutch Kings | On from nightfall |
That's four nights when one trip downtown gets you a free show, dinner on Main Street and a walk under the archways. Dec. 23 may be the best of them for families hosting relatives, since it's the last concert of the year and falls two days before Christmas.
Round Rock's other big December event takes place somewhere else on different nights. Light Up the Lake runs Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5, at Old Settlers Park. The city's event page runs the festival from 6 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Saturday and lists balloons, a light show, live music, holiday displays and family activities. Go Round Rock's listing calls it free and notes that it's a walking event on both sidewalks and grass, so wear the right shoes. The fact sheet adds hot and cold air balloons over Bright Lake and holiday food.
If you want both in the same week, you can do MicroBus downtown on Dec. 2 and the lake festival that Friday or Saturday.
November's Saturdays happen at the park
Before the lights come on, November's biggest weekend events are at Old Settlers Park and the grounds next to it. That's another reason Wednesday is the night downtown stands out.
Saturday, Nov. 7 has events on both ends of the day. At 10 a.m., the Old Settlers Association holds the grand reopening of the Palm House Museum at 3300 E. Palm Valley Blvd., with an open house until noon. Community Impact's report on the reopening explains why downtown regulars might know the building. The two-room house was built in 1873 on Palm Farm, moved downtown in 1976 to serve as a museum and chamber office, and moved back to the association's property in 2024. It was restored this summer with hotel occupancy tax funds and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. If you remember it on a downtown street, you can see it on its original land that morning.
That afternoon, the Día de los Muertos Procession and Festival runs from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Lakeview Pavilion & Stage in Old Settlers Park.
Saturday, Nov. 14 is the 22nd annual Rockin' Around the Holidays Bazaar, a holiday arts and crafts show at the Clay Madsen Recreation Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and organizers ask visitors to bring canned food or colorful Band-Aids to donate.
These are good weekend outings, but they're at the park, the association grounds and the recreation center. In November, the music and dinner are downtown on Wednesdays.
Still to be announced
Go Round Rock's 2026 fact sheet doesn't list a separate lighting ceremony, a Christmas parade or a holiday market downtown. It gives the lights only as Dec. 1 through 31, nightly. The fact sheet doesn't give parking or shuttle details for the downtown lights or Light Up the Lake, and the city's Light Up the Lake page covers only the walking route. The fact sheet sends people to GoRoundRock.com for holiday theater performances, so that page and the city's event calendar are the places to watch for updates.
Until more is announced, the next date to know is Wednesday, Nov. 4, when Lix Box opens the November run at Prete Plaza.
